I ask this question because there are people whom have been buying new cars over the years and always take their car to a garage to be worked on. When they make the switch to working more and more on their cars themselves, they will need to acquire the proper tools to do so. A person will still need the basic tools but cars now also have computers and smog equipment. Let's compile a list of tools a do-it-yourselfer will probably need to do some work on their car. As far as the computer on your car, I realize that it is best going to a dealer since I heard the equipment is very expensive to purchase.

For my old cars a good set of end wrenches and sockets. On my new cars a good shop.
