  1. Website Update: Upgraded to new release of vBulletin

After moving to a new but temporary server, we found that the tools to fix the database were inadequate. Fortunately for us, vBulletin released v4.1.10 a couple of weeks prior, which includes tools that resolved our databases problems. This new release brings more stability, and promises better performance; however, as long as we are on a shared server it's only a matter of time before we start having more trouble.

  2. Website Update: Moving to new server

So... we moved to a new temporary server because the previous one was crashing all the time. While preparing our the database for the new "permanent" server we found that the database is... yup... corrupt. Fortunately, it's fixable, but we need to take some extra precautions.

Here's the cool part, the new / permanent server is more robust without storage limitations like the previous server. So, stay-tuned as we continue our move!

  3. Christmas Party with Horsepower for an Hour, DMC Transmissions, and ATRA

Julie and I were invited to a joint Christmas Party hosted by Donny and Susie Caccamise, who own Horsepower for an Hour and DMC Transmissions in Ventura. We met some great people, who are serious about their technical skills and customer service. Since West Coast GearHeads Magazine provides the events report for the Horsepower for an Hour Automotive Talk Radio Show, Donny asked that Julie and I join them for this festive event. We were pleasantly surprised by Donny and Susie's generosity for their ...

  4. Bringing in the new year with ideas, new fun, and more stories...

2011 was a rough year for me... after every car event (a few a month), my knee would swell and I wouldn't be able to walk for a few days. Mid-year, I was sent to physical therapy, but that didn't help. After procrastinating, I finally asked the doc for an MRI, that showed a torn meniscus which was fixed yesterday and now I'm recovering. . Crap - I first started feeling the pain at the gym a year ago.

    • The bad news, I'll be a bit slow during the holidays. And need to another surgery

  5. Christmas Cruizes, Toy Drives, and GearHead charity events...

    Hey GearHeads,

2011 is wrapping-up and the holidays are upon us. There are tons of charity events happening throughout the remainder of December and as much as we would like to attend all the events, there's always something the limits us. But, there are so many less fortunate people that have limitations too. We hope your generosity extends to the needy this holiday by attending as many of the the special holiday charity events as possible.

  6. WestCoastGearHeads.com is moving to a new server soon

We've endured so many problems with running this website on a shared web host and have reached a point where we've out-grown the server. We're currently testing a Virtual Server and will be moving soon. Registered users will receive an email alert telling them that the access to WestCoastGearHeads.com may be intermittent while the domain name re-points to the new server.

There are lots of advantages of moving to a Virtual Private Server (VPS). This is a bit technical so, just know it's ...

We're checking into this and will let you know, if we need to take the system down to repair the damage.

  8. Talkin about our cars

As a new user on http://www.ColoradoHPJunkies.com, it's customary to write an introduction and show some pics of your car. After writing it I kinda liked it and thought I should add it to my blog. Here's what I wrote:

So an intro... hmmm, I have a couple of Mustangs an '07 GT/CS and an '03 Cobra. The GT/CS was mine for about a year until we found the '03 sitting on a used KIA lot. They didn't know what it was and had a killer price on it. Just before sitting down to make a deal, ...

  9. How to make a GearHead talk

    Author: Glenn Eldridge -

One of the great benefits of being part of the West Coast GearHeads Online Magazine Crew is that we get to cruise to lots of great car shows. But, what we love the most is listening to other GearHeads tell us all about their projects. I'm sure you've noticed that if you walk up to the guy standing next to a cool car and simply say... "Nice car," you are almost guaranteed a 30 minute conversation and perhaps a new friend. And it doesn't even have to be their ...

  15. Website version updates... What is the plan?

A couple of months ago, I mentioned that the WCGH website would see an update soon. The plan was to upgrade to version 4.05 but, during my testing process which lasts for a couple of weeks, vBulletin announced a schedule with enhancements and fixes in 4.06 and shortly after 4.07. I have been waiting for certain fixes and enhancements, which were minimal up 'til now. vBulletin is about to release version 4.08, which fixes the color and theme issues I've spent many hours on.

    Due to some ...
