    We are currently ra
cing in N.A.S.A.'s Performance Touring class (E). After adding the supercharger to the 2008 Pre-Production Ford Focus we intend to start racing in the PTC/ E1 class. As for the 2000 Ford Focus, we intend to build the car for the PTA/ E0, PTR/ ES, or Super Unlimited / ESR classs. We believe that the Ford Focus is a capable platform and given the right build will be able to compete with full build Corvettes, Mustangs, Vipers, Porches, and full tube frame race cars. With the fully built car, we eventually intend to aim for the prestigious over all win (over ALL classes).

About the superchargers: F2Focus in conjunction with Oscar Jackson (who came out of retirement for this project) are developing superchargers for both the Zetec and Duratec engines. We will be working closely with F2Focus to test and develop their new product as well as running them ourselves on the track.

Wow! This is exciting stuff!! Sorry Jazz, you have to explain a couple things to me...what does NASA stand for? Where does Ryan race? What is the distance and what are his times? You see, I have no clue about this type of racing and I am depending on you to teach me! This sounds like a race we would like to go spectate sometime!

National Auto Sport Association. It's a lot like the SCCA except that they don't do autocrosses. They host some rally events but mostly road racing. Spectate? You should come out and drive! They do HPDE as well (High Performance Driving Education). You don't need any experience to sign up for HPDE level 1 and you will be assigned an instructor. The next event will be at Willow Springs International Raceway on May 29 and 30 (same weekend as the JR meet :[ but hey you could come out and drive on Saturday).
You get 4 sessions per day (20 minutes each) with classroom time immediately after each session to talk about what you learned and if anyone spun out, went off track or did something stupid they want to make sure that person knows how and why they messed up.

Once you've been doing HPDE for a while and get signed off to drive in HPDE level 4 you can start competing in Time Trials.

You will need a competition license to "race" though. We get a 20 minute warm-up, 20 minutes for qualifying and then the actual race is 40 minutes.

NASA also sanctions the Western Endurance Regional Championships or WERC. They run endurance races at Buttonwillow and up north at Thunderhill. The next Enduro is at Buttonwillow on June 26 from 6:30PM to 9:30PM and no that is not a typo, it is a 3 hour race AT NIGHT! The Finale for the WERC is the 25 hour at Thunderhill on Dec. 5th. A full day plus an hour of multi-class racing, think 24 hours of Daytona, only stopping for fuel, tires and driver changes. I have run endurance races in the past but we have never been to the 25 hour at Thunderhill but we plan to make it this year. Even FINISHING a 25 hour race is a huge accomplishment!

NASA SoCal runs at these tracks:
Willow Springs International Raceway (the big track 2.5 miles)
    in car video:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...4420839585179#

Buttonwillow Raceway (around 3-3.5 miles depending on the configuration)
in car video of one of the most common configurations: #13clockwise. Also this is the configuration for the endurance races.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSmTdGNmMzM

California Speedway "the ROVAL" 3.5 miles <-- this track is awesome! We go down the main front straightaway and through turn 1 and 2 of the NASCAR Track, down the back straight and then we cut into the infield.
    in car video:

I also try to make it to any Redline Time Attack events that I can. They run the same tracks that NASA does plus Streets of Willow(a 1.8 mile track at Willow Springs), Infineon(NorCal) and some out of state tracks including Las Vegas Motor Speedway, VIR, Sebring etc.. Its not a "race" you are only trying to get your own personal best time, its not wheel to wheel racing for place. So they have a strict no contact policy and you also do not need a competition license to compete here.
NASA has a strict no contact policy as well but it does not apply for race groups.

Thanks for explaining all of that! Glenn and I have our hearts set on road racing. Someday soon we will make it to the big track!

It's very tempting to head out to Willow Springs on the 29th!

We'd love to see you come out one weekend, even if it's just to spectate. It's great, and there is always someone to talk to. If I can feel right at home with my curling iron and nail polish, two gearheads such as yourself would have no problem either. :P

We don't know if we'll have a car running by this next track weekend, we're hoping but no idea yet.
