    Forum speed?

I've noticed that with the modifications to this forum, it is a bit slower than without the mods. But, it seems slower than it should be. Could you guys do me a favor and time a couple of screens to let me know how long they take.

    Here's what I'm looking for:
From click on submit at login to main screen - ( seconds)
From main forum screen to "Lounge" forum - ( seconds)
From click on post reply to post entry screen - ( seconds)
From click on submit post to next screen - ( seconds)

Thanks for your help. I need to compare with what I'm getting to see if the problem is on my end or on the server.

    Here's an update...

I fixed an error in the config. Previously pages were taking up to 30 seconds to load. I now notice an increase in page load speeds; do you?

    Re: Forum speed?

I had to post the picture post twice and it still took a good 30-40 Sec's to finalize. The edit of an existing post seems to be around 10-20 sec's. Log in was a bit longer. Overall I would say that the board seems act like it is very buisy. It took 40 Sec's or better to change topic catagories or to go home. Could some of the slowdown be from your provider, or is it just part of the php3.?? board's code? The So Cal Falcons board does not seem to act the same. Do I really need to up-grade? I like your layout and the idea.
    Keep up the good work!

    Re: Forum speed?

The support forum at http://www.phpbb.com does not run this slow. In fact, I have two other forums on this host that were running fine until recently. I thought I had the problem licked a few days ago, when I found a cookie setting issue. I had the cookie issue on another forum a couple of years ago and should've remembered to look for it this time. Although it needed to be fixed, the system is still slow . Unfortunately, it looks as though the system performance issue is Intermittently slow.

Throughout the morning it's been slow/fast/slow... I'm thinking it's related to server load. The issue was escalated to 2nd support level at the web host... I should hear something from them shortly.

    Glenn,

Over at the portalxl site they had a topic that covered a slowness issue, just can't remember what was discussed. I have noticed a slowness too, but I am remoting to my home computer and typing from work... so I can't exactly give you realistic times! How about when you access my sites, did they move equally slow, slower or fast compared to yours? When I log onto mine and do things, it usually goes fast...

edit: Hmm... I tested mine on the remote, and it took a couple seconds. I try yours and it takes less than 5 seconds.

    Re: Forum speed?

I think I was in one of those discussions. What I learned was the the portal add-ons slow the system down. I removed all the extra goop from the index page and I did notice an increase in speed but, that was before we had the sql load issue. Since I'm using a sat. connection at home, my browser's download speed is only 1mb while upload is around 200k. This site loads faster for me because I don't have all the additional stuff loading. But for somone with DSL or cable, they probably don't notice the difference.
