Today Glenn and I, plus a few other Gear Heads, cruised with a group of approx 35 people to Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) in Van Nuys. GAS houses rare, unusual, exotic, and uber expensive cars in a museum like building, which stands next to the Galpin Auto Sports store. Among the immaculate and magnificant cars on display were 2 Ford GT's, one white with blue stripes and the other painted in a semi-flat satin black. The black GT was sic! I am usually not a fan of the flat black on a car but this Ford super car was awesome! To my pleasant surprise, seven Aston Martin's were lined-up for our viewing pleasure! Standing all alone, we couldn't miss the silver Saleen S7 as it was the first car in our view as we walked onto the showroom floor. Various Mustangs, Cobras, muscle cars, and some specialty cars were among this incredible collection. SVTRonnDogg took tons of photos that he will be posting soon.
Definitely the most interesting car there by far was the purple-painted concept car named "Scythe". What an incredible car! Built on an 08 convertible Mustang chassis, this car was completely fabricated in fiberglass by two employees of GAS. The main designer and builder is a 25 year-old talented young man who goes by the name of "Z". To say the least, I was terribly impressed with him and what he has accomplished at such an early stage of his career. Z and a technical mastermind built this car in 10 short months! Push button starter fires up this beast. GAS wanted this car to sound like "the end of the Earth" and by God, it does! Z himself presented his car to us and patiently answered a multitude of questions.
Read about the Scythe From the Auto Blog website:
"The Galpin crew completely stripped a 2008 Mustang GT convertible down to the chassis. It was then built back up with a molded fiberglass body, Air Ride suspension system, and massive 16.5" Wilwood brakes. Under the hood (partially) is a methanol-burning twin-supercharged 5.0L V8 that puts out a little over 1000 horsepower. Boeckmann knows that the styling of the Scythe is controversial and that not everyone will like it, but he hopes that people will appreciate at least some aspect of the car. Truthfully, it has some pretty trick features including a steering wheel that can move from one side of the car to the other and a voice-activated computer system that can control nearly all aspects of the car. Unlike other "concepts," every feature on the Scythe is fully functional, and the car has been driven on the street."

We were invited to tour the back room where they actually fabricate these custom cars. Two cars they are currently working on are actually for a branch of the U.S Armed Forcesto be used in a promotion. The flat black matt Challenger will be customized to resemble a Harrier? complete with an ejector seat!
While the other is a satin matt white Mustang, which will harness a "jet engine" and a drivers seat in the middle of the car. Eric M, RonnDogg, and Marlon to help me out with the particulars.
The day wrapped-up with 12 of us going to a Mexican restaurant in Chatsworth for lunch. GREAT food, company, and a nice ending to the day! Thanks to Marlon (FlyFord) for organizing this as an All Mustang and Ford Club event.
