Thumbs up Mustang Cobra Grudge Match at Famoso Raceway

Tetge and I go at it at Famoso Raceway a couple years back. Quick and simple video with great audio that captures my Bias Ply ET Streets wrapping at launch. From up in the grandstands you can clearly hear the unique howl from the Eaton Superchargers, and then the exhaust tone as we go by the camera.

So Tetge, if Julie's car is so big, how come she has faster times than you?

Everyone who has been on track has better times than I do since I am only a drag racer, and I have never taken any vehicle onto any road course. If I had been interested, I could have done so, but it has always been drag racing that interests me. I already know that Ashley Force is taking a year off to have a baby, for instance. And, to top it off, Julie has a personal instructor who is showing her how to really scoot in her giant car. That 2 feet (give or take) extra width and longer wheelbase and it not being an ancient Fox Body may help a lot with the handling although there is going to be a power disadvantage compared to a Terminator. And the Terminators have decent brakes for a stock Mustang, as well, and big fat tires, so, perhaps her car is faster, which is cool, since it is Mustang, but I doubt it. Therefore, it has to be the driver, and, I have to conclude that she is faster since she is a road racing specialist. Us drag racers don't really know enough to have opinions that count when it comes to road racing type activites.

There is nothing to teach. This is why I like it, it is simple. Anyone can drag race in short order especially if they have a good feel for their tires. But, Brakelate, your personal trainer, is a premier drag racer. I personally saw him go low 10's and knock right at the 140 mph in the 1/4 and he drove there and back on pump gas. I never got close to such a feat.................

Naw, that was weak. You have to do better than that with "the tetge".

Nice sig statement. And it is obviously true that you are a road racing specialist compared to me, but, remember us drag racers don't know no nothing about no corners. I watched the in-car stuff where your personal instructor was telling you when to "turn in" whatever that means, and I saw it several times and still don't have a clue as to why the bunch of you want to get car sick paying to go around the same old corners at some track, when there are perfectly good roads with corners almost everywhere in these parts. The same sort of applies to drag racing except they never seem to prep the starting area at stop lights. If they put some glue down there would be no need of drag strips at all.

The number of potential runs varies widely depending upon the venue and the crowd. At a crowded Famoso event, if one got in line immediatley and stayed late, 4-5 laps might be about all that they could get. I usually don't do more than 2-3 laps so this does not bother me. At a private event such as the upcoming one at Fontana, one can generally make as many laps as they wish. Willow Springs 1000' sort of drag racing events might be a good place to practice basic skills although at Willow the rules are sort of strange since they make you roll down your windows opposed to the strict rule of windows up at real drag strips. Willow has zero prep and they do not allow burnouts on the racing surface. But, there is a toy three amber tree and they furnish a reaction time and a ~1000' trap speed and ET. So one can practice a lot of the drag racing skills and hot lap all they want. Jay ran 10 times last time out and won every race. And he could have done twice that many. We did not get wheel hop at Willow even though there was no prep and the clutch did not even have the slightest smell of abuse about it, so Willow would be a good starter for learning. I have attached a video I made on my first visit to Willow of how the drag racing is done:

Compare the Willow Springs action to a real drag strip:

Umm, that was on a Second Generation Hayabusa. Something everyone else clearly knows is capable of Nine second passes up around 150. Therefore my performance was weaksauce.
