The base Boss 302 lists for $40995 in California and the track package adds about $6995 to that and brings the base cost to $47990. Galpin has ordered some which already show in their inventory and they are all $47K+ or so sticker. Base Shelby GT500's are not much more, listing for $48645 in Ca, and $53490 with the SVT pkg that adds the 3.73 and bigger tires stuff, and GT500's certainly have far more power. I suppose that I live in the past and just can't come to grips with $50K+ OTD Mustangs. Even a regular 2012 GT, with the only options being the Brembo brake pkg and the 3.73 diff, lists for $32085 in California which would make it pretty expensive OTD for a Mustang but, from reports I have heard, this package would be a pretty stout performer. Galpin has four GT's at $32085 so someone there understands what the most bang for the buck possible would be in a 2012 Mustang. I actually would not mind a new GT but it is priced out of my comfort zone, so, I will have to just limp along with my weak little almost stock Terminator.

BTW, the base 1LT 2011 Vette with a 6 speed lists for $49900 in California, and, although it is a disgusting plastic lump of crap, it is also a real sports car. At $50K OTD there are a number of interesting choices....

I am assuming that both vehicles were driven by the same driver under the same conditions and that both vehicles had the optional performance packs. Interestingly when you do a comparison at Ford.com, the Shelby and Boss share a lot of characteristics. Leguna Seca is a fairly demanding circuit and the Laguna Seca option for the Boss may be more aggressive than the SVT option on the Shelby. So, lighter and more nimble counts and may balance out a better power to weigh ratio. But, on the street, for everyday driving, I have a feeling the the GT500 would be the better, more civilized, option and, the Shelby should do better in the 1/4 as well, which is all that really counts in any case. One wonders how good a GT with the options that I mentions (at $32085) would have gone? Also, how well would a base Corvette circulate?

Well, all I can say is this; (Same track, same day)

I was able to run down a Nissan GT-R, and pull up on it on the straights, so it wasn't a matter of driver skill.

I then was able to run down a Ford GT with an exhaust. I caught him and then got close and pulled with him down the back straight. Not as easily as the Nissan, but I was right there (though it sounded like he was short-shifting it).

THEN, on the way home, some guy decided to give me some action in his new Grabber Blue 5.0 Mustang. He recieved an education, but was kind enough to compliment the blower howl and state that he needed one.

Not bad for an eight year old car that can be made to the same specs as mine for a total cost in the low $20k range, if not less.

    Fun day.

Yes, but, your driver's side exhaust is almost dragging on the ground......

If you are pointing at the view most people saw of me at The Streets of Willow Springs today, you would be correct.
