    Will the 2013 Shelby GT500 Smoke a Corvette ZR1?

    SOURCE: http://www.AmericanMuscle.com

Vicious rumors are swirling that new 2013 Shelby GT-500 is going to be one amazing piece of machinery. Not that the current one isn’t badass, but the future supposedly holds some awesome performance upgrades! We have heard that the new Shelby will be getting a nice 5.8-liter upgrade from the current 5.4, and a brand new Eaton TVS unit supercharger giving it a borderline-ridiculous 620 horses straight out of the gate! It is also rumored to have a little bit of that new look that is in store for the Ford Mustang coming in 2014 -2015.

This is amazing news since Chevrolet has released their brand new 6.2-liter V8 supercharged ZR1 Corvette, which is putting out about, hmmm, 620 horses. The 620 horsepower ZR1 comes at a sobering $30k price increase from the Shelby. Well, Chevy, that’s not bad but I think we may have one-upped you on this one! Although, we may be just a little biased, the rumor certainly seems to be in our favor!

We don’t know for sure, but if this is what the future looks like, I see some ‘Vette spankin’ coming soon to a drag strip near you.

So what do you think? Will the 2013 Shelby smoke the new Corvette? Comment below!

Either way, I'd rather be in a Mustang any day of the week over any Vette.

I'm holding that thought 'til after the new face of the Stang is revealed. I'm thinkin' aero-dynamics are in the mix though.

I think if the next gen GT500 comes out with 620hp stock... I will be parking one in my garage. Question is... which Cobra finds a new home to make room!

Compared to Mustangs of all sorts, one seldom see late model, or for that matter, any Corvettes at the strip, and the ones that are there are usually auto trans cars and not necessarily all that fast. There are some that run, but they are not very sturdy in stock configuration, in my observation, as drag racing machines, when their potential is fully exploited. They also have huge brakes and it is difficult to get sticky drag tires for them, which is just as well since they eat trans axles when launched hard on a sticky surface. Shelby vs Vette would seem that it might be another apples and oranges comparison of a coupe to a sports car, since Vettes are light weight and wide and low which gives them an advantage at road courses but not necessarily at the strip, especially in anything near to fully licensed street trim. And, of course, who knows how much power a fully tweaked Shelby makes but the 4V DOHC Fords have already been proved to be quite capable of making huge amounts of reliable HP and the Shelby has a stick axle which is much better for drag racing. So, I'd bet on the Shelby as a drag racer and on the street in everyday use, but I would not be confident about its abilities at a road course.
