    Attention Mustang suspension gurus

It was posted on the GTO forum that fox body struts fit the GTO. Then I was told
that later 94-04 struts are 1 inch longer, which makes them the same as the GTO
length. The GTO would require a coil over, but MM has that covered. The problem
I have been told is the newer Mustang has a thinner knuckle mounting area than
the fox body 79-86. Can anyone back that up? I was all set to buy '04 Cobra struts
made by Bilstein, and the coil over kit from MM, then this wrench popped up.

that's all true, lowered 94-04 cars typically run foxbody struts because they work better with lowered cars.

and the 79-86 spindles for the 10" brakes (and 4 cylinder car spindles up to 93) need to be swapped to run the foxbody v8 87-93 11" brakes/struts because of the mounting difference.

I think you should be alright, unfortunately I don't have any spare 94-04 struts for you to try out, but I have no problem measuring the spindle on my 89 (uses a 95 spindle) and my 97 (97 spindle)

Damn, so I am stuck using the 79-86 strut, I cant use the longer one made
for the heavier car. I was pretty happy when Ed told me the Cobra was in
the same weight range as the GTO. The Fox on the other hand is lighter.

Now I am not so sure this will work, which sucks. Unless they make a strut
for a Fox Vert? That should get me closer in weight range.

As far as the strut length, I wonder if I could fab a camber plate to act as
a 1 inch spacer under the strut tower, or can they support the weight of
the car? This arrangement is still new to me, I am used to SLA suspension.
The one GOOD thing about the GTO, is its already designed for the strut
towers to support the weight of the car, I read the fox can be damaged if
the towers are not properly reinforced.
