    Making black plastic/rubber shine

Glenn brought home a product that finally does what we want to be done, shine and darken black plastic/rubber pieces on the car! Meguire's I think it was. We will see how everything looks in daytime and report back!

careful with it and the upcoming rain, I use 'back to black' which I think is mothers, it works great but when it rains on my white car I get black streaks that I have to buff out of the paint, so I don't use it in the fall/winter

Yeah it streaks when it gets wet. You might not notice it on a black car though.

We haven't used it on my car yet. Glenn's beater isn't gonna move for a few days so we should be good.

It's the Maguires protectant. I was pretty impressed with how it brought-out the black but, I'm sure we can do better. I'll have to drop by Kevin's and try a tire or two out on Julie's car to see how his "Back to Black" does. If the Maguires stuff is put on right, it won't spin-off onto the paint. I had Wes put it on a bit thick to let it soak-in a bit. I later wiped any excess off and didn't have much for residue.

On the next cruise / meet, bring what you have so we can see what works best. We'll post the results up here.

A friend saw how faded the plastic was on my wifes DD, he used peanut butter on it and it looks brand new. I guess the oil in it soaks into the plastic and makes it look awesome. You leave it on overnight.

Just don't leave it outside or else you might attract varmints

My wife's Suburban has that black plastic all over. It turns light gray and looks terrible against the black paint. I've been using one of the Tire shine products and it lasts the longest, better than any of the plastic treatments that I tried.

What's the name tire shine product that you use? Something used at tire shops or an off the shelf product? Our Explorer has lots of plastic that turns gray as well. Applying a rubber / plastic treatment makes a huge difference. We cured the problem on Julie's Stang... We bought new tires lol

Peanut butter?!?!? I would think it would really smell nutty for a while after applying. PB is greasy stuff, though.

not sure I can remember ever smelling the outside trim on any of my cars before.

I used the Chemical Guys Fade2Black and Forever Black for those Hard Plastic
Trim. The Fade2Black is in an Aerosol and meets VOC requirements. It works
great for detailing the engine hoses and other engine compartment areas that
you might wanna dress up for a Car Show. Easy to use just spray it on and you
have the option of just leaving it or wiping it down.

I personally don’t like the “Wet Look” on tires, so I use the Chemical Guys
Natural Shine or Silk Shine. The Silk Shine is a Sprayable Dressing, just spray
it on and it gets into those hard to get areas like the ribbing or around the
lettering of the tires. A quick wipe and the tires look like they were just
    mounted at the tire shop.
