There's a website that has sound files of mufflers. Not sure if the Hookers are listed. If nobody beats me to it, I'll look up the website and post it up here.

I had a Hooker Aerochamber on my old `97 GMC Sierra pickup, it sounded great, very deep and not too loud, definitely no resonance at all, but that truck does have a way different exhaust setup than a mustang so it would be hard to say. (2.25" Y-pipe with 2 cats -> single 3" inlet pipe to muffler -> single 2.5" outlet pipe from the muffler)

If you can't find any sound clips of them, I do have videos of that truck that I could post for you to get an idea, most of them are from after the cat converters blew up and I had to gut the Y pipe to be able to drive the truck, so they would be about as loud as a mustang with no cats for comparison, but with a different sound of course.

My favorite mufflers are the Dynomax Superturbo's, I've ran them on my `89 and my `97 and there's zero drone, and they are a similar design to the hooker, but a bit quieter.

I'm selling the dynomax polished stainless 2.5" catback from my `97 for $250 but I don't think much of that would work on your `68, I only removed it because I installed the IRS in the car and it uses differently offset mufflers.
